From grid constraint to controllable flexibility
Grid congestion means that available transport capacity can no longer be taken for granted. For companies this raises a new question: how much flexibility is available within the energy system, and how can it be deployed to best effect?
Grid Services brings consumption, generation, storage and other flexible assets together within Energy Control. As a Congestion Service Provider (CSP) recognised by TenneT, we can actually organise and deploy that available flexibility for congestion management.
Capacity-steering contracts
Grid Services supports companies with capacity-steering contracts such as CSC and existing CBC arrangements. We look not only at the contract with the grid operator, but at the consequences for the entire operation:
- how much capacity is available;
- at which moments it is available;
- which assets can be controlled;
- which operational constraints apply;
- what the economic value of flexibility is;
- how congestion agreements can be combined with other energy objectives.
CSP services
- Analysis — determining how much flexible capacity is technically and operationally available.
- Pre-qualification — preparing connections and flexibility for participation.
- Contracting — supporting CSC, existing CBC and other forms of congestion management.
- Control — letting flexible assets respond automatically and in a controlled way.
- Market deployment — putting flexibility to work through relevant congestion mechanisms and GOPACS.
- Monitoring & settlement — measuring, recording and verifying what was offered and delivered.
Congestion management does not stand apart from the rest of the energy system. Energy Control weighs the deployment of flexible capacity against other options and interests within the total energy position, and determines which use delivers the most value at any given moment.
